Catherine's Annual Yuletide Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her customary festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a blend of carols, music and readings from actors such as award-winning actors.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers supported by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the charity, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
