The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device

It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
