Whenever a significant honors show nears, one notices a demand for introducing additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of fans with niche passions.
Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. So would tabletop games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it remains highly personal, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
The Representation Problem
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything that year
- Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
- Well-received sorting experience got ignored that year
- Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
These are often small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles globally continuing this trend for many years.
The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
And to reiterate, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
